Orange puts its marketing might behind the HTC Hero launch
Wow, what a day! Orange yesterday sprung a surprise on us all that HTC hero will be coming out today, and quite unlike any other previous launches- everyone knew it the second they picked up a newspaper.
It seems that the mighty Orange marketing machine has been extremely busy buying up full page adverts in all the London newspapers showing off the new phone. The London Metro, London Lite and evening standard all were running full page adverts so not matter what time us busy londoner’s were out of bed, we were treated to a deluge of Android goodness.
It seemed to have really paid off as I caught a few people talking about it asking if it was the new iphone.
As with most marketing, you need to put a few hits in to land that knockout punch and from the looks of the things- Orange is going all out to take maximum advantage of its first mover to market and has landed a real knockout blow.
I am sure that Orange have guaranteed themselves a massive hit- and hopefully this will get the rest of the press sitting up and taking notice.
I am trying to get hold of a Hero myself so I can do a full review, but until then look at Gizmodo’s indepth review , Slashgear/ Android communities great review and Electric pig’s review. All these reviews show a slightly different take on the Hero with Gizmodo perhaps being a bit harsh in its criticism.
My advice to you is to get out to the stores and try out the hero handsets yourself- and hold onto them tight as they are going to be disappearing off the shelves quickly.
My advice to Tmobile is to get in gear and get your version of the HTC Hero out asap before your target market turns orange. ( currently there is not even a coming soon image of the phone )
Great job orange and great job HTC- this is exactly the way to get android devices into peoples’ hands and turning them into regular users.
HTC hero is available from Orange’s website and stores now!
Tmobile have so far got no mention of the HTC touch
