App Showcase: Camera Zoom
Now that hopefully you are all voting on the Android Network Awards, I would like to showcase a few of the apps that I think have gone the extra mile to really develop the android platform.
One of the largest drawbacks on the android platform has got to be the camera. The Cupcake Release of Android bought some improvements to the camera but there is still a long way to go.
Camera Zoom is one of the new breed of apps that allow users to have access to more of the features that let you have fun with the photo functionality built into your phone.
For me the 2 things I use the most are the simple double tap to take a picture and the simple zoom functionality however the extra control of being able to enable night shot and other key features will no doubt be a boon to Android Photography fans.
Camera Zoom has also got a lot of new fun features such as the ability to put borders onto your photos and have fun with your photos with overlays like the ever popular Picsay application. Below are a few highlights from the latest features including:
Iris animation with FREE skins![]()
Save, delete, share
Fullscreen shutter
Custom shutter skins
Grid composition views (incl stability detect)
Custom borders
Auto focus on / off

How dare you promote this app like this?! Do you call yourself a reporter?
For everyone; CameraZoom has brought one feature to Android and that feature is digital zoom (which isn’t real zoom, just an ugly enlarged part of the real picture). After that it just started copying features from Snapphoto Pro (the only app that really deserves praise). The developper of that app busted his ass and made about 15 apps and has only charged 99cts for 1 application. This CamerZoom comes along and just starts copying from Bratag.
If you really want to praise excellence, then do an interview with Bratag, not this clown!
Hi Roy,
Thanks for the comment. I agree totally that Snap Photo has a great set of features and Bratag is a really great developer. I am not in any way trying to dismiss the quality of his work by showcasing others software.
Showcases are all about showing off great things that are being done in Android and from its reviews in the market, there are a lot of people that vouch for the quality of this application.
At some stage, I would love to showcase Snap Photo, Camera Pro and some of the other camera apps that are on the market.
I am sure that you know that there is always going to be some overlap in features when it comes to any application, however what matters at the end is that the users are getting what they want.
I agree that overlap is inevitable. The sad thing with CameraZoom has been that it has always implemented a certain feature about 2 weeks after Snapphoto implemented it, thus plainly copying it.
I also agree that it would be fair to interview Bratag about Snapphoto. I am sure he would appreciate that. His email can be found in his app descriptions.
overlap = competition = good for users!!
oh … and Camera ZOOM is much better than SnapPhoto.
Thanks for the review.
Roy,
I think your comments are uncalled for and in fact damaging to the Android community.
All good developers work exceedingly hard to make the best product they can for their users and androidslide is no exception. We hold great respect for Bratag and his products and you should also respect other developers who are benefiting the community.
In terms of ‘copied’ features, I believe you are referring to standard features such as timer, burst mode, image stability, etc. all of which have appeared on iPhone camera apps long before the first Android camera app (e.g. Camera Pro for iPhone and Night Vision first made these features available in 2008).
Your comment has also overlooked the exclusive features that Camera ZOOM offers :
- Digital zoom
- Famous ‘buddies’
- Quick settings (including reset all)
- Circular zoom wheel
- Photo booth
- Stable shot meter
- Shutter animations
- Customize every button
The first two of these features were in fact later implemented by Snap Photo Pro, but we understand this will happen in the nature of a competitive market.
At androidslide our focus is our users. We will continue to come up with exclusive new features to improve our product and we encourage our competitors to do the same – and ultimately it is the users who will benefit.
