Countdown to Googlephone UK- Networks tussle for the Nexus one
Finally Google has tipped its cards and shown the world its next logical step into mobile since launching android….the nexus one. Whilst all our
american cousins ( and UK based Googlers) have been playing with their new shiny handsets- the rest of us have been sitting waiting for news of when the handset will hit our shores.
Engadget were the first to provide a tantalizing tease promising us that the UK launch was ” a few short weeks away”. Sadly that information was released all the way back on January 9th and here we are in the run up to Valentines Day without a Nexus to be had.
To confound matters, its seems that today T-mobile hinted that they may be in line to get the the Nexus One too. Thanks to a twitter from a Tmobile Exec, Robin O Kelly we now know that t-mobile have their eyes firmly set on the Nexus One prize. Could Vodafone’s new found love for apple iphones, mean that its interest in the Nexus One has begun to wane??
From looking at the situation, I personally think we could be witnessing the interception of the year, if T-mobile can wrestle the phone from Vodafone’s control. The prize is not just going to the be the nexus one, but potentially a Motorola manufactured Nexus Two, and potentially a Google Nexus tablet. Ultimately this is going to boil down to real estate and marketing, whoever is going to partner with Google is going to get that high ground of advertising space on the lucrative Google.co.uk homepage which is currently is visited by 3% of the WORLD’s global internet audience.
If there was ever a more lucrative prize in mobile marketing, then I have yet to see it. Ok T-mobile and Vodafone- lets get read to rumble.
(Incidentally-why does it seem that everyone has forgotten the Motorola Milestone? There is a golden opportunity that is just waiting to be taken)
Brink on Spring 2010 and keep checking the Google Nexus One page for updates – I know I will!
