UK networks push Android and go App-crazy
After the massive success of the launch of the new HTC Desire and Google Nexus one, the networks seem to have caught smartphone fever. With a large proportion of the sales growth coming from smartphones- it seems that the networks are trying out a variety of strategies to crack the market including using their favorite apps to push handset sales.
T-mobile deserves the first mention as they have thrown everything behind smartphones- even advocating smartphones for the lucrative business market.
T-mobile has done the most to date for the smartphone revolution, launching the original T-mobile G1 and the first flat rate internet plan for mobiles. T-mobile was also the first network to bring out its own apps in the form of the awesome ShareAnywhere and the useful Recycling Guide.
T-Mobile’s recent email newsletter also highlighted its favourite apps which are currently:

Orange also has also gone down the road of releasing its own android app, in the form of porting its Orange Wednesdays app to Android.
This is available from the Android Market, however if you want to read about it follow this link to view the Orange Wednesdays App Page
With Orange and Vodafone, both looking to roll out App stores in the next few months, and Apps being seen as the next big thing to earn extra revenue- I am sure that Networks are set to even go more app crazy in the coming months and years.
