Countdown to Google I/O 2010
The worlds eyes turn to the Moscone Centre, San Francisco today with the start of the Google I/O conference. The Conference is Google’s largest developer event of the year and traditional launch platform and showcase for new products. This year, with Apple releasing a tablet pc, Blackberry pushing up its market share and some powerful handsets available on Android, the pressure is on for Google to deliver.
Expected for Google I/O we can look forward to seeing:
- (Hopefully) a new version of Android- Version 2.2 ( dubbed “Froyo”) – is widely expected to be announced. Check out our Froyo Launch centre to be kept updated and to see what to expect.
- Google Tablet- The world is waiting to see what Google is going to do to counter the Apple Ipad. Already rumoured to be working on developing its own tablet in partnership with Verizon, whether we will see a preview of this is pretty unlikely.
- Google “Smart” TV- Google looks like taking the next step and deploying its Android Army to the Home entertainment market, with the advent of “Smart TV”. Developed in partnership with Sony( and allegedly Intel and Logitech too), it will have its own Android Market as well as an assortment of great features such as user created overlays and widgets. If it allows recording of tv content and wireless syncing to my android phone- then I am first in the line. Mobileblab managed to find the old sony patent application which could tease some great features. ( although I am pretty sure its a playstation3 in the patent application)
- Google Chrome OS demo- with Acer and Dell all indicating that they are going to launch chrome OS netbooks, the president is on tools to deliver the same success that its had with android. Expect compatibility with android apps, simple interface and very fast boot times. Google TV support would be great too!
- Google apps- now that office 2010 is dropping on our doorsteps, Google has started pushing more muscle into its Google apps service offering. Expect faster, better user interface and I am hoping on contextual toolbars and better sync to mobile.
Loads of other Android related releases- Because the worlds eyes are turned to Google and ergo Android- many companies are going to use this as a great launch platform to bring out their apps. Already Dataviz has announced plans for an awesome upgrade to Documents to Go ( including desktop sync app)and Hullomail have announced the 2.1 compatible release of their Visual Voicemail Application for Android. (currently available from the market)
