Google I/O 2010 has opened with a bang with the first day of announcements of Google new features and services. For those looking to keep up to minute news, you can keep an eye on the Google I/O twitter feed
Gingerbread
Gingerbread ( Android 2.3/ Android 3.0 ) is scheduled in for December 2010- no confirmation on what this will entail, but hopefully will have some hints for Day 2.
App Announcements
New version of Seesmic including buzz integration shows that they are going to fight hard to compete with the Official Twitter App.
New version of Hullomail Visual Voicemail for 2.1 handsets-
Google Tv
Not too much for android as yet, however Google seems to be saving that for day 2 when they are expected to announce Google Tv. The timing of these, cannot be coincidental which has prompted me to think that the two are linked. The prospect of having:
- Apple Tv functionality, but open source and with apps enabled- is a very powerful tool
- your content streamed to your phone to take with you. ( similar to Sony’s Play TV)
- The ability to access and create and manipulate content of your phone via your tv.- The phone would very much be just a data storage device and having images, video ( and apis for developers to play with ) streamed to your TV would be an excellent addition. The concept of Computers, tvs, tablets and phones becoming just “screens” to access the same data hosted on the cloud is very compelling.
- Making your phone the hub to manage your TV and content, from home and away. – Similar to Sky’s remote record functionality but rocket powered!
There are so many way that google can take this that its very exciting to see how this develops.
