Godaddy.com for Android- Wow!

Submitted by Android UK on May 25, 2010 – 7:08 amOne Comment

Since the release of Android 2.0 we have seen a plethora of great new generation apps hit the market.  Its clear that production values have seriously gone up since imagethe first Android apps peeked their head onto the T-mobile G1.  Personally speaking as someone who obviously spends a lot of time on the internet, I was particularly delighted to see Internet Institution and marketing genius GoDaddy.com start to flog their wares direct onto Android Mobiles via an app.

First Impressions

First of all let me just say this app is very slick and thus is a perfect case study in all the key factors in how to create a great app. Developers take note! It has a

simple interface that streamlines all the websites content and cuts to the business.  Its visually impressive and has a great set of transitions that make you feel like you are experiencing a quality app.  Simple +  Slick + Quick+ Useful + Entertaining= a Great App.

Functionality

The app covers all the bases when it comes to giving easy mobile access.  With the app you are able to:

  • check if domains are available to be registered
  • query the whois and find out who owns that awesome domain name.
  • Managed your go daddy account
  • View their product range
  • contact Godaddy for support.
  • Purchase Godaddy products and services direct via a very well designed shopping cart
  • It also has the unique feature of offering the user a drop down menu of all the services which will allow the user to quickly navigate to the required service.
  • It has a great video entertainment section.

Integration with Phone functionality.

There is no point creating an app unless you plan on taking advantage of the cool features of a smartphone. To this end  the app allows the user to call or email support

directly from within the app when things start to go wrong.

For most UK readers, you will be unaware of Godaddy’s branding reputation.  They have kind of a Richard Branson flair to their adverts which traditionally have big budgets, pretty girls and are often talked about after being shown during the superbowl.    To this end, the developers have come up with an ingenious option to bundle a mini entertainment app in their app.  This mini app will allow you to check out their very entertaining commercials as well as other video content.  ( our favourite was the Grandma sketch which had us in stitches!)

The app is not only quick and very responsive- it does exactly what a mobile app of its kind is expected to do.  I thoroughly recommend this app, if anything to see how slick Android can really be!

On a side note- Godaddy.com now also has a Europe based datacentre- so us European types can take advantage of the better speeds to local sites.  Their european plans seem really well priced and come with loads of features.  ( Link here for Godaddy European plans)

Here is the full announcement in detail from Godaddy.com:

We do have a datacenter available in Europe for our shared, grid, and virtual dedicated hosting products.  You can purchase European hosting plans here.  If you have current hosting accounts located in our United States datacenters, call or email our customer representatives at (480) 505-8877 or emailsupport@godaddy.com for migration details.

Edit: Godaddy.com have asked that if anyone would like to share their personal feedback about the app- please visit the Godaddy.com mobile community forum to share your ideas and views.
