Speed up your calling with Dialler One
Dialler One is perhaps one of the simplest applications around, however to us Android veterans it is also one of the most useful.
Looking through my list of apps, there are quite a few apps that I use virtually every day, however in the case of Dialler One, this app is so useful that I use virtually every hour!
Dialler- One is what is know as a “t-9″ dialler, which makes calling any of your contacts a breeze. Unlike the standard method of calling a contact which involves searching and/or scrolling a long list of contacts, it uses the traditional t9 predictive text method of entering text. T9 is a method invented in 1998, which assigns letters to the 9 numbers of a mobile phone keypad vastly speeding up the process of inputting text. Fast forward to 2010 and now this excellent method can be used to call your contacts by simply dialling their names.
How it works
For example if you look to the right at the image you can see that in order to bring up all the contacts that have the word “test” in them, all you need to dial is 8 – 3 –7-8 (corresponding to letters on keypad T-E-S-T)- and that’s it!
That’s not all!
Where Dialler- one really excels is that it has fully integrated the rest of the android experience, thus you can still click on the icons and access the persons contact details or facebook or even find them on a map. If you press and hold on a contact you can also access the contacts details.
But wait- there’s more!
Dialler one manages to take the contact function to the next level by giving you options to Send Sms, Send contact, Share and even add the number to its own Speedial functionality.
There are a few neat touches which make this by far one of the most usable apps on the market. Dialler One has really focused on the user journey and analysed what users need. I know the first thing that I want to do when I receive a call from an unknown number is add it to my contacts- and dialler one prompts you to do just that. Another thing that I often do is after speaking to someone, I create an appointment to meet them. Dialler – One also makes this easier by giving you one touch access to add an even by just pressing and holding on a contact.
Its great to see that an app like this is still being developed and added to having released its 1.2.1 version a few days ago adding the following:
Dialer One v.1.2.1 released today:
+ Option “Close application after call ends”;
+ Export call log to SD card in CSV format;
+ Tone Dial (dialling a number on a land-line using DTMF tones);
+ “Inclusive search” option allow search contacts by company name, nickname, notes;
+ Option “Remember last screen”;
+ Option “Back button hides keypad”;
+ Option “Call by clicking the contact name”;
+ Brazilian Portuguese localization.
Conclusion
Dialler One is a really great app that deserves to be featured on Google’s features market. Although by no means perfect, it is great app that shows the power of Android as an open source platform. Although some elements could do with some tightening up like adding toolbars, etc, the vast majority of the app is awesome and a pleasure to use.
Seriously go get it now from the android market ( Available Free!)
