SwiftKey Beta enters the keyboard market

Submitted by on July 15, 2010 – 12:49 pmOne Comment

If you have been looking for an enhanced replacement keyboard and Swype is not for you,  then Swiftkey Beta has just been publicly released in the Android Market. Swiftkey works in a similar fashion to the normal Android Keyboard by predicting the rest of your word when you start typing. Where it really shines is how it uses TouchType’s Fluency™ technology to predict the next word you want to type, before you even press a key.

According to the press release on their site www.swiftkey.net

SwiftKey™ features include:

  • Support for US/UK English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Swedish
  • Unique next‐word prediction engine based on word context
  • Rapid and comprehensive learning of individual writing style
  • Up to 50% greater text entry efficiency than other market solutions
  • A third of next words predicted without any character input
  • Relevant, personalised predictions
  • Advanced error correction designed for small mobile keyboards
  • Novel and intuitive user interface
  • Inline spelling and grammar correction
  • Automatic accent insertion (for non‐English character entry)

It claims to do it with 50% accuracy, see for yourself after the break.

I am currently using it myself after getting a bit frustrated with Swype and I personally think its great for a Beta release. I would like to see a button to  hide the keyboard when it reaches final stage as it can be intrusive when trying to read a text message for example.

You can swipe your finger down the keyboard or hold the menu button to hide the keyboard. Well, you can on my phone anyway (desire).
